For the year card class

So I decided to have a 'For the Year' card class. It was a big class. I wanted to make enough cards that my participants would have several varities on hand to use throughout the year. I decided on 7 different designs and they made 4 of each kind. I put out ALL my sentiment stamps and they could choose what sentiment (if any) they wanted to use. They loved this idea. It did take a little longer, but they were pleased with the outcome. Each person also got to take home a card keeper box to keep all thier cards in. It was a great class and I will be doing more of these!

Now, here are the 7 different cards we did.

I didn't have enough pp for each person to make 4 of this one with the same pp, so using pp from the same pack they made 2 of each of these.

Dwight's cousin's daughter had a baby. Confusing? I guess it would be Dwight's second cousin who had a baby. Anyway, she had a beautiful baby girl just before Christmas and for the baby shower I made her this card. Love how it turned out. Took me a little more than 5 minutes though. ;)

Super quick birthday card

For my neighbour and friend I made this super quick and simple birthday card. I had like 5 mins to make it so not bad! I used Pretty in Pink cs for the base and embossed it with the Elegant Lines folder. Used the build a cupcake punch. (Coolest punch ever!!) And the sentiment is from Well Scripted.

Tomorrow I will hopefully share the cards from my Christmas card classes.

Reject

This was one of my attempts for my Christmas card class but I didn't like it very much. It's not bad but needs something more and I couldn't figure out what that something more was. So, into the reject pile it went. Yep, said pile. There were a few oops's on my way to finding the 4 I did love.

Sometimes I love that place, sometimes not.

Last week I popped in there for something and I ran into my mom who was looking at the tiles they have there. Just above the tiles I noticed some cork tiles. *bing* on went the light bulb in my head. I've been wanting a bulletin board in my studio but hadn't found the 'right' one, until now. The cork tiles were 12 x 12 and came in packs of 2 for $2. Sweet. So I bought 7 packs. (an extra one because the some of the big shot dies cut cork!!)

Anyway, just one layer was too thin so I glued two sheets of cork together and made six of these tiles. I painted them the Poolside Blue because I wanted them on my Willow wall. Then I used that 2 sided tape for hanging things and put them up. Tada! A bulletin board on my wall for $12. Love it!

Twin cards just using different colors. I loved the pp pack Sweat Pea and so, of course, I was hoarding. Gotta stop doing that. So I made some cards knowing I probably wouldn't use on the boys pages. lol Super quick, super easy. Thanks for looking!!

Cheap wall art

I'm still decorating my basement. Still, as in started a year (or two) ago and still finishing up.

I painted the walls BJ Hempseed, like the rest of my house and thought I would just add some color in the furniture and accessories. We bought a new couch and loveseat in a chocolate brown and that's where it ended. After painting my studio BJ Poolside Blue I knew that was the color I wanted to add to the basement. So I've bought some fabric that is pretty much the same color blue to make curtains and couch pillows. I also wanted to put some stuff up on the walls, but didn't want to spend too much as 1/2 the basement is the boys rec room and things can go flying sometimes. lol I went to Dollarama and bought some canvas's. They all had pictures on them but that was fine, I knew I was going to paint over them. I just bought a variety and when I got home started playing around with how to arrange them. After I had the canvas's how I wanted them, I started painting. The base is a chocolate brown, added a few squares of the Hempseed color and burgandy (because that's what I had on hand) and then made some swirls with the Poolside Blue paint I had leftover. 20 bucks spent and few hours of my time, I've got a great piece of art on my wall. It really does look better in real life though.

And, here's another card share using the new embossing folder, Flower Garden. I absolutely love those embossing folders. This card was quick and easy.

I'm still working on a mother/daughter class, a few things came up unexpectedly so I've got to do some juggling....

Faux mother of pearl

This technique looks and sounds hard but it's not.

I used a piece of saran wrap, crumpled, dipped it into a little bit of the frost white shimmer paint and then dabbed it all over my VV cs. Let dry. After I sponged the edges in Soft Suede ink I wiped some of the ink off the paint. Creates such a unique background. I used the retired set, Bliss for this card. Love that set.

I am planning a scrappy garage sale, was hoping for some time in July but my days are slipping by. I'll let you all know when I settle on a date.

for Mrs. Barrett. I downloaded the new GIMP program and can't figure how to make a watermark on it. So I added the text in Picasa. Guess that works too.

I meant to post this a few days ago but my wonderful hubby surprised with a weekend away in Kenora. He realizes I've been miserable the last few months and thought we could all (us and the kids) use a retreat.

We watched the Canada Day fireworks over the lake. They actually set up two areas of fireworks, one on each side of the lake. Amazing!! Lasted a good 30mins too.

Now, on to the card. This is retired cs, Taken with Teal and the pp is from the retired Sweet Pea collection. Loved that paper!! I glued the 3 pieces of pp to copy paper then ran it through the big shot with the lattice EF. Punches used were the decorative tag and scallop oval. It was a quick card to put together.

I don't have a paper copy of the new catalog yet, (I know, how pathetic is that!!) but they are on order. Everyone can now see the new catti online at www.stampinup.ca and that's where I've been all night. lol Hoping to place my order in the next few days, so if there is anything that is a must have for you, email me in the next day or two.

*Tracy, did you see there is a dinosaur set in the new catti? ;)

I'm also planning to do another mother/daughter class this summer. What would be some good dates? During the week? Morning? Afternoon? Send me some suggestions!

And I love it!! I've been playing in my studio off and on for the past 2 days. What a great feeling to be reaquainted with old friends!!

How I've missed having inky fingers. lol :)

I also have to say sorry Leigh, I meant to update sooner today but I was having so much fun creating I forgot. (and of course I had to make supper for the clan, the boys needed bathes, the dog needed a walk...you get the picture)

If you look closely you can see a few finished cards. I'll upload those tomorrow (hopefully) Some of these are for the teachers so I gotta get them done...tonight. lol Yep, I still love to procrastinate. :)

things are changing

Not that there are any of my fans left.... :(
When I started my new job in November I never thought it would eventually consume my life! So, I quit!! Yep, my last day is Saturday. Woohoo!! I have never felt so good quitting a job.
I loved working at the shelter and I love what they are doing for the homeless dogs/cats, but it's a very demanding job with almost no pay. Eventually I was going in everyday for something (without getting paid). I just can't give that much of myself to something other than my family right now. I do wish them all the best.
Give me a few weeks to get my life (and my family's) back on track (as well as getting my house clean and in order) and I should be posting again. Can't wait to get my fingers inky and I have so many projects I've been dying to get to.

Mystery hostess and birthday invites

This is little late in posting but thanks to everyone who could attend my mystery hostess party. It was huge success. Shawna won the mystery hostess and walked away with a box full of goodies. She was pretty excited.
This is one of the cards we made at my mystery hostess party. My oldest son turned 8years old yesterday! (Wow how the time flies.) I decided it would make a great invitation to his party so I made a few more.
We did the direct to paper technique for the background on the Marina Mist and Early Espresso pieces. Such an easy and cool effect for male cards.
Lots of distressing too.
Ingredients: Marina Mist, Early Espresso, Cherry Cobbler cs and ink. Black stazon ink, WW cs. Extreme Elements and Skateboard stamp sets, distressing tool, color spriter tool, brads.

Leigh's party

My friend Leigh had a party a few weeks ago and these are the cards we made.

This first one uses the new Fun Flowers die from the Occasions Mini Catalog. Love that die! The leaves were made by cutting of the petals off the flower cutout. I used the Elegant Bouquet embossing folder and debossed the front side. Very cool effect. We also used the "air blower thingie" (aka color spritz tool). Another very cool effect, but you can't see it very well in the photos. It adds a misted look to it.

Ingredients: Melon Mambo, Pretty in Pink, Wild Wasabi, and Soft Suede cs, Melon Mambo, Soft Suede ink, Fresh Notes stamp set, and vintage brads.

My friend Susan asked if we could make this card at the party. It's on pg 194 in the catalog. I thought is was a regular sized card but it's actually only 3x3. Super cute. Used Pocket Silhouettes stamp set, Marina Mist, Cherry Cobbler, Daffodil Delight and Crumb Cake ink, Crumb Cake, Daffodil Delight and Very Vanilla cs, Smooch Top Coat, Very Vanilla 1/8" Taffeta Ribbon, pearl and mini library clip. I loved this little card.

I don't know about you but I don't purchase the package of school pictures that Life Touch takes at our school. I have my opinion's but believe it or not, I'll keep them to myself. I do purchase the collage sheet for each boy so I can put it in their school album.
The school albums I'm doing for my boys is a small project to highlight their school years. It's a 12 x 12 album and there are 3 pages for each grade. 1st page is their collage, 2nd page is their class photo with names of every child and the 3 page is their report card, handprint (if I remember), a list of fav subjects, best friends, that kind of stuff. I also keep every layout simple so that is quick and I won't put it off.
Here is Colby's Gr. 2 collage page. Like I said, super simple. I used pp from Playdate pp pack, the "2" is cut with the bigshot and the A+ sticker is from the Playdate accents pack. I made the scallops by punching a bunch of 3/4" circles then cutting them in half with a scissor so they are not all perfect 1/2 circles.
I also wanted to share this card I mad for my friends birthday. Way back in November and just found it on my camera (along with 200 other pictures).
The pp is retired, I was using up scraps. The butterflies were cut with the big shot as well as the tag. The embossing was done with a cuttlebug folder and the jewel are SU! rhinestones. I think I've gone through 3 packs of those already, yikes!

Well, off to plan a project for Friday night!!

Nope, not slowing down

Okay, so I thought things would slow down. Yes, I'm crazy, but I thought it would.

Changes

A few changes in our house. No, not the kitchen floor, but someday.

I actually quit my home daycare and now work and the Pembina Valley Humane Society. An interesting and busy job to say the least. Hopefully, now that the crazy first 2 weeks are over, I'll have more time for paper crafting. I did have a card to share but I'm on the wrong computer.

Here are a variety of cards with the same basic ingredients.
I used my petals a plenty embossing folder but only embossed the on the outside of the oval. How did I do that you wonder? Find out at my big shot class this Saturday, December 4th at 1pm. Cost is $5. Email me if you are interested.
Okay this first card is made using the Wish for Peace set, Early Espresso ink, ribbon and cs. Quick, easy and looks very nice IRL.
This card uses To You and Yours stamp set, Early Espresso ink, ribbon and cs, and dazzling diamonds.
Again, quick, easy and very nice.
For this card I used To You and Yours stamp set again (wish it wasn't retired, I can't part with it), Rich Razzleberry ink and cs, grey ribbon.
I took a closer pic so you could kinda see the glitter. Love these colors together.
Not totally happy with this last card. It was fine until I colored the berries. Now I need to decide if I should color the rest, ah, we'll see. Soft Suede cs, ink and ribbon and Christmas Cardinal stamp set.

I almost forgot to mention, I used the smooch peralized top coat on the embossed petals. Very shimmery touch to the cards, just can't really see it in the photos.

I'll share the cards we made at my Christmas card class. I've recieved a few emails regarding my lack of motivation for updating this old blog. Sorry. I have more Christmas cards I've made in the last few days that I'll share later. (don't wanna overdo my posting ;) )

This first card you'll have to tilt your computer, or your head. I tried everything to get it to stay upright but it refuses.

Ingredients: Very Vanilla, Early Espresso, Soft Suede cs, Early Espresso ink, Vicotria crochet trim, lattice embossing folder, dazzling diamonds and A Wish for Peace stamp set.

The first class I did, we used the smooch top coat on the tree/church snow tops, for the 2nd class we did dazzling diamonds. Two different but kinda the same looks.

This card is 5.25 x 5.25. A fun size.

Ingredients: Candy Cane pp, Real Red, Whisper White, Baja Breeze cs, Baja Breeze ink, Real Red grosgrain ribbon, texture plate, silver shimmer brad (I think this picture is the one I used a rhinestone instead).

This one was super easy. And I think my favorite.

Ingredients: Cherry Cobbler cs, ink and seam binding, Whisper White cardstock embossed with the Flurry EF, rhinestones and All Holidays stamp set.

This was another favorite with the girls.

Ingredients: Cherry Cobbler, Whisper White, Early Espresso, Crumb Cake cs, Early Espresso ink, Deck the Halls pp, Victoria crochet trim, vintage brad, dazzling diamonds and To You and Yours stamp set.

This next card was very hard for me. I'm not into the cutesy thing or bright colors. I don't think it turned out too bad.

Ingredients: Garden Green, Real Read, Whisper White cs, Candy Cane pp, Gold (some had silver) shimmer brad and I'm not sure where the "Happy Holidays" is from.
This card is also one of my favorites but was labour intensive. (sorry girls lol)

Ingredients: Early Espresso, Cherry Cobbler, Very Vanilla cs, Deck the Halls pp, Cherry Cobbler seam binding (that stuff was just too cool), Eyelet border punch, ticket corner punch, Deck the Halls button, linen thread, glass glitter (this glitter tarnishes with age so it'll give it a real vintage effect, sooo cool), Early Espresso ink and A Wish for Peace stamp set. Hope I remembered it all.

* I do want to add some of the stamps I used were from retired sets. I don't usually do that for a class, however I knew all the girls that were coming so I wasn't worried about this being an issue. You know, "having to have the stamp set we used but can't get it because it's retired" problem.

Class adjustments

I've decided to adjust my classes just a little.
On Oct. 30th I'll change that class to a kids class. We'll make 30 cards (single layer, 2.5" x 3.5") and one regular size card. This way they have enough for every kid in class and their teacher. Cost is $20 and will still start at 9am. Mom's don't have to stay, but it would go faster with a little mom help. I think it would take about 2 hours. Signup deadline is Oct. 20th.

I still have a few spots left for the Nov. 6th class if anyone is interested. Call or email me!

Wow, I must say, I love the way this journal turned out. Oh how I've missed my inks....
I made this journal for my sister in law. She is having surgery tomorrow (they found cancer on her kidney so it's being removed). This journal is for people to sign when they visit her, they can write words of encouragment, she can write down what people have brought her or done for her. My sister in law is off all duties for 3 months (lucky duck) so it's up to her 4 kids and hubby to make meals, clean and do laundry. Plus take care of her every need (teehee). Thank goodness her kids are VERY responsible and already do their part in keeping the house running.
But I'm sure many of us will still help where we can.
I made the cover of the journal with chipboard. I used Elegant Soriee pp and used modge podge to glue it to the chipboard. I didn't take and inside cover shot, it just has Soft Suede cardstock.
I inked the pp directly with the Crumb Cake ink pad in an up/down sweeping motion, then sponged Soft Suede in few places. I used Frech Script background stamp with Soft Suede ink. The damask stamp from Friends 24/7 set in Basic Grey ink. The dots from Extreme Elements in Baja Breeze ink. The flowers are from one of my tutorials using the scallop circle punch. I used Baja Breeze cardstock and blue rhinestone brads. Once assembled I spritzed them with Champagne mist shimmer paint mixed with alcohol. The leaves I cut freehand, crinkled then inked using Old Olive cs and ink. Added a few strips of tuelle that I ran my Soft Suede ink pad over. The tag is made with the big shot matchbox die and I stamped the word grateful on it. It's on dimensionals to add a little....dimension. The black bling swirl is not SU!. Oh, and I punched the holes and added the owire with my bind-it-all.
There are 14 inside pages for people to sign or for her to keep notes. I added a little decorative edge and a stamped image to each page, and little Crumb Cake ink with a sponge.
I also added 3 window sheets cut into top note shapes and decorated. The first one I used a tag cut with the matchbox die and stamped the saying "Life is a matter of moments." The flowers are dyed with Baja Breeze reinker. The crochet flower was from a friend of mine.
This second one has a tag also cut with the matchbox die and the saying is "You're a friend who makes good times great."
This last one says "You're in my thoughts, you're in my heart"
On the back cover I kinda did the same as the front. But I used the Tres Chic background stamp, the blotch from Extreme Elements, and the damask from Friends 24/7. I also lightly misted the entire thing with champagne mist shimmer paint with alcohol.
So? What do you think? Pretty awesome hey?!!

I know, I've been avoiding you. Really, I don't mean to, there seems to be a shortage of time around here lately. (and mojo) But I've been working on a class schedule for this fall so I'll be posting that today or tomorrow, just a few more details to work out.
I do have a card to share. Another one I did for a swap with Liz. I can't remember the colors I used though, it's been too long. hmmm, Daffodil Delight and Tangerine Tango perhaps, with a splash of Old Olive. I used the rock and roll technique on the hearts. Easy to do and looks fabulous.
Alright, back to work on the classes....

My baby turns 5...

My baby turned 5 years old yesterday and he wanted a construction birthday party. I forgot to get a picture of the invites. (I must be losing my mind, all these pictures I'm forgetting to take.) It was a 4 x 4 card, in orange and I used the retired Little Trucks stamp set. It turned out awesome of course.
I made 2 signs for him which he thought were pretty cool. I cut out 4 x 4 squares (mini construction signs) and the black letters with my bigshot. Quick and easy. I glued the "sign's" on the packing paper I get in my orders. Carter thought this was awesome.

Then of course the cake. It didn't turn out quite like I wanted, but oh well, the best that we get for a 10pm cake. The 5 holes are from the candles. (see, almost forgot a pic of the cake lol) Carter did love his cake though so it was all good.
Last but definately not least, goodie bags. I was hoping to find some orange cones/pilons at the dollar store but no luck. (although I've seen them there before) So we settled for lunch bags decorated. Pretty awesome party all around. Ahhh, and now I'm partied out. lol

Eight 10year old girls

Wowsers, what a party!! I think the party girl had a blast. My niece Ashley asked to have a build-a-bear birthday party so this is what I came up with. I think you can click on the pictures to make them bigger.

First the cake, or cupcakes as it ended up being. They all had a bear paw print on it in the build-a-bear colors of yellow and blue. I jazzed up the muffin tower 'cause, well, you know!! Lucky me, my order came yesterday too (with the Li'l Paws die in it) so I quickly cut out a few bears to stick into a few cupcakes.
I also made Ashley a birthday banner. Gotta have one of those. I thought it turned out pretty awesome. There is a bit of non-SU! stuff on there but that's okay. (just the glitter cs and ribbons)

Here's a close up of the "A".

I also had a matchbox for each girl. In it there was a sticky note pad, clip (which I decorated) and some jelly beans. My sister also had 3 mini gel pens for each girl, beside the box. I'll see if I can get Eva to take a picture of the clip. It was a silver clip and I made little pink flowers and glued them on. Very cute.

Here is my sample of the canvas project the girls did. I picked up some 7"x 9" canvas's and a few bottles of paint. The girls could chose what color they wanted to paint their canvas. As it dried the girls then picked out some pp for the clothes their bear would wear. I had all the bears done a head of time. I also let them use the nonSU! glitter cs for the title on their canvas. (It was easier than letting them use glue and lose glitter.) I also let them pick out some flowers or punch hearts/stars/flowers/butterflies with the punches and pp.

They got really creative with the paint and pp embellishements. I'm sure some of them would have stayed all night if they could, they had a blast.

I managed to get the girls to settle down long enough to take a picture of them with their canvas's. What do you think? Pretty creative hey?

And last but not least, Milo after the girls left. I don't think he's used to such 'high energy' in such a short amount of time. lol

In the magazine I get as a demonstrator they showed us a technique I had never tried before. Take a peice of felt and put some random drops of different colored reinkers on it. Then use that piece of felt like an ink pad. I used that technique on this card. The reinkers I used were Old Olive, Pink Pirouette and So Saffron. I like the effect I got. Very cool. You can't tell in the photo but I stamped the tower and then cut it out.
For this card I tried another new-ish technique. I've done reflection cards before but used wax paper. For this one I used the smooth side of my stamp-a-ma-jig to create the reflection. I sponged the water and then used a marker to make the ripples.
This is a simple card, pretty self explanitory.
I love this new embossing folder, Vintage Wallpaper. There are a few other new things on this card too, including the vintage brad, cardstock and the stamp set.

This card was for a challenge on a scrapbook site I visit when

can. The challenge was to use Navy, Teal and Orange. I didn't like the way this card turned out but recieved a few compliments on it. I don't know, maybe it's the way I used the colors.

This next card was my attempt at something 'vintage' looking. Seems to be all the craze right now and it's not totally my thing but I do like it. So anyway, here it is. I distressed and tore and inked and crinkled. It's okay but not great either. Yikes, maybe I shouldn't be sharing at all these 'failed' attempts. Oh well, I guess not even I can keep you fooled that I'm not perfect. hehe

I love this bird punch, way too cool. Gotta find a reason to use it more.

I am totally getting into this build-a-bear thing. Okay, with the big shot dies anyway. I made this card for my neighbour who turned 2 on Saturday. He was more impressed with the bowling set I got him than with this card....lol

I'm working on making a build-a-bear canvas. My niece wants to make one with all her friends for her birthday party. She'll be my trial run. If things go well, I'll be offering it as a birthday party class.

Butterfly pansies

I found a tutorial (actually several) to make these pansy flowers using the butterfly punch. Of course I had to try it out. It was very easy and fun to make.
On this first card I tried Tangerine Tango on my flowers. I think I distressed the flowers a little much. (but I was experimenting :) ) I ran the WW top note through the big shot using the Vintage Wallpaper embossing folder. Very quick, very easy.
This other card I used Rich Razzleberry ink and cardstock.
The difference on this card is I used the lattice EF instead of the Vintage Wallpaper, the scallop oval and then added leaves to the flowers. Which I think looks much better.

This first one is a fun card. I totally CASEd it from someone on splitcoaststampers.com. I colored the jeep in with my copics. The rest is SU! product. It's for my brother in law's birthday, he's a total car freak so I hope he likes it. teehee

I think all the product I used is retired though.

This next one is a thank you card (obviously) for some friends of ours. Used the new Cajun Craze. (love that color) After I stamped the flowers from Elements of style onto shimmery cs I sent it through the big shot using the lattice embossing folder. Soooo cool!

18 days since my last post!! Yikes, I've had a few emails about updating this old baby. hehehe
So here I am, updating. Summer so far has been crazy busy but I still managed to have my mother/daughter class. Turned out great and I have enough people to do it again. Betcha wanna see what we made right?
First of all, I made these treats ahead of time to give to every mother/daughter team. The daughters sure liked them. Back on track

It's been a crazy few weeks, Dwight's father passed away May 27th. (He had been sick for a long time so it wasn't too sudden) But, things are back to normal now. Okay, not quite, Brett moved in this past weekend so we are adjusting to a teenager in the house. So it's as back to normal as I think I'll ever get. lol
I haven't done anything creative in my studio, boohoo. Hoping to this week (or today!!). I have been looking over all my soon to be retired stuff and I'm thinking, when I have my new catalog party I will sell off my retired cardstock, buttons, ribbons, ink pads/spots, refills etc. So stay tuned for a date!

I jumped onto the copic bandwagon! Crazy I know, but I love coloring. I need to practise a little more but I'm getting the hang of it.

This first card I color with R27, R29, R59 and the colorless blender. I stamped the flower from Fifth Avenue Floral onto Neenah cardstock 3 times, colored and cut them out. I used my bigshot to cut out the leaves. The flowers and leaves are mounted on Early Espresso cardstock, YUMMO!!!

This next card I used the rose image. I used B91, B93, B97, B99 and the colorless blendar. I ran the white layer through the big shot with the elegant bouquet impressions folder.

What do you think? Not too bad. I really need a few more markers though...

scallop circle punch flower tutorial

Okay, so I've finally got the tutorial here. Sorry it's taken so long. On the weekend when I started uploading all the pics Dwight took me furniture 'looking' but before we knew it, we bought a new couch and loveseat for the basement and I was giving the rec room a coat of paint. So again, sorry.
These flowers have been travelling around in the blog world and thought I'd share too. Don't know who the original creator is, sorry.
I really like this flower but they are bulky so probably wouldn't use them on a layout. I'm working on some cards to use these flowers I've been making.
First, punch out 3 scallop circles from your cardstock.
Send these 3 flowers through your crimper 6 or 7 times, this breaks up the fibers in the cardstock making them soft.
They'll look like this.
Then, crunch them up several times to soften even more.
You'll notice on the edges that the cardstock is separating, that's a good thing. Peel the cardstock apart so you now have 2 circles.
Do this to all 3 circles, making 6 circles.
You can see how the inside of the cardstock is fuzzy, this is now the right side. (or the top)
Layer all 6 circles, fuzzy side up, and poke a hole in the middle for your brad. You can use any kind of brad, it won't really be seen once the flower is done. Great way to use up those brads you bought and now wonder why you did.
Once the brad is in, start with the top layer and scrunch it up. Working through one layer at a time.
You'll then have a flower that looks like this.
You could ink the edges before assembling to create added dimension. I want to try this with pattern paper but don't know if you can separate pp, guess I'll find out.

Next book of me challenge

For this challenge I want to scrap a photo of my parents. This picture is from 1966 I think. I want to write the story of how they met, how long they dated and so on, on the backside.

The dollie background paper is not SU!. I distressed it with Soft Suede ink to look a little more vintage. (not so good with vintage layouts but thought this one wasn't too bad). I took some SU! pp that was white with black writing on it and I distressed it and inked with soft suede. The flowers were made with the floral fusion die and I made the leaves with cardstock. (Oh, I've got a tutorial to post yet on how to make some flowers and leaves with the crimper, I'll do that tomorrow.) The swirl was stamped then retraced with the gluepen and added glitter. I have a sheet of soft suede cardstock baking it all and on there I'll journal their story.

Here are the other cards we made in class.
This card is a total CASE from SCS, can't find where I saved the artist info, sorry. It's a square card measuring 5 1/4 so it's a great size to work with. The colored squares in the middle are Kiwi Kiss, Pink Pirouette, Riding Hood Red and Baja Breeze. The brad is not SU! but it worked so well that I just cheated. shhhh don't tell anyone. The stamp set is Pocket Silhouettes.
This card is also unique as I cut 1/2 of the front panel off. I love using the daisies made with the big shot and I saw this style of card on one of my blog surfs. I used Soft Suede and Kraft cs for the base and WW for the daisy. French Script and Baroque Motif sets. The brad is Pumpkin Pie corduroy (love those corduroy buttons/brads).
I'm sad to see Taken with Teal retire so I had to use it. I used my craft pad to ink up the Medallion stamp and then used Iridescent Ice embossing powder. The sparkle is beautiful.
This last card I used the ornament punch for a vase. The green cs and ink is Handsome Hunter and I stamped/embossed with white the leaves on the vase. It's super simple but love the way it turned out. I also used a texturz plate for the background.

I've decided to start a Book of Me. I like the idea of doing pages about myself (and Dwight) as kind of a story for my kids to read, to know who I am.
When Dwight's dad first went to the nursing home I made him an album from pictures throughout his life. Dwight would look at those pictures and say, "I never knew my dad did that" or "I had no idea dad was into that" and it just hit me there were so many things Dwight did not know about his own father. Mainly because his dad was rarely around and if he was he didn't talk much.
I plan to make a layout once a week or every two weeks, we'll have to see how motivated I stay. lol. It would be great if you could play along with me. I'm aiming for 12 challenges/topics to start with and if I want to keep going I will. I would love to see any layouts you do for my challenges. There really are no rules, I'll post a topic and you complete a layout. Any kind of album, any size. This is a great time to do something different. For me, I'm going with an 8x8 album, I really like that size.
The first challenge is to create your title page. And here is mine.

I inked the flowers with Lavendar Lace, Chocolate Chip and Always Artichoke, masked it and inked/stamped again onto textured WW cs. I found a package of vinyl thickers I had kicking around for forever, can't remember how I wound up with purple letters, but whatever, they ended up matching Lavendar Lace. Did some sewing and added a little chocolate taffeta ribbon. Simple, easy and a great title page.

Saturdays card class

Was awesome, like usual. Thanks ladies for coming.
These are some of the cards we did, simple yet nice. They made 16 in total, 2 each of 8 designs.
Just for You is done with the Bella Bleu pattern paper, Oval All stamp set with matching punches and a few brads for a finishing touch.
The colors on this one were a little out of my comfort zone but thought it looked great. I used the texturze plate on the Whisper White cardstock and cut the butterflies out with the beautiful wings embosslit. The colors for the butterflies are Melon Mambo, Brilliant Blue and Rich Razzleberry.
I love this stamp set, Sense of Time but have a really hard time using it on cards. This card ended up being 4 1/4 square. On my first example, I crumpled the Creamy Caramel background cardstock and used a brad in the middle of the clock.
This second one I didn't crumple but clear embossed the face of the clock. On both I stamped the smaller circle thingie, cut it out and added with dimensionals. I think the girls preferred the crumpled background.
I just love the look of the scallop circle made into a card. Just fold your cardstock in half before running it through the bigshot with the seam just inside the circle so it doesn't cut. Used pocket silhouettes on this one and some retired pp. Simple and quick. We also added a little glitter to the flowers.

Here's the card Brent gave Carol. I just threw a little ink on the cardstock for him. ;)

It's another Zindorf knockoff. My first attempt at one of here tutorials but wanted to wait to upload it so Carol wouldn't see it early. I should mention though that I've been using sponges instead of the brayer because I mainly have stampin' spots, not all the big ink pads.

I also made the inside all "fancy". I really like that look but have to admit I don't always put forth the effort.

Hoping to get some scrappin' done today after we go see How to Train Your Dragon. You know, so we're prepared for when we decide to adopt a dragon.

This card is another Zindorf knockoff and again, I think I did good.

Sponged the different colors and stamped the grass from Inspired by Nature in black. I don't have the two step bird punch (yet) so stamped the bird from Always with versamark on black cs and cut it out. I place the bird to make it look like he's sitting on the bent blade of grass.

Got 2 cards made, but only because I HAD to. Anyone want my kids for a few days?? With summer coming I know I'll have even less time in here and that is depressing.

Anyway, this first card was for a workshop I had last week. Used Rich Razzleberry as it has been an extremely popular color. Maybe if I had girls I'd like it too. Used the Vintage Vogue stamp set and matching wheel. I also had to use the Beautiful wings embosslit to make the butterfly. (love that die) The girls enjoyed making it.

This other card is for my mother in law, today is her birthday. I used So Saffron, Dusty Durango and Old Olive. I totally CASEd this card from SCS as I didn't have time to think one up on my own. For the splatter effect I used an old toothbrush with reinker/water mixed together. The air spritzer will be on my next order!

Bunny box, a puppy and a few recipes

Here's the cute little bunny box I was talking about. I've seen them all over the web when I blog surf. I'm going to be making these at the seniors complex on Monday, hopefully they enjoy them.

The box is made with 1/2 a sheet of cardstock, the rest is made from punches. I didn't have all the sizes so had to cut the eyes out by hand. (they turned out pretty good)

After the boys saw this box they wanted to make one too.

Colby made his a red bunny, and Carter made a red puppy. I did most of it on Carter's he didn't have the patience. We also didn't ink the edge's on theirs, but should have so the body parts would stand out more. (If you click on the picture it'll make it bigger.) After I took the picture Colby decided he didn't want eyelids on his bunny so I took them off. I'm glad they have fun in my studio.

I also have the recipes from scrapday for those that asked for them.

Scalloped Potatoes and Ham

6 tbsp butter, divided

1/4 cup flour

1 tsp parsley flakes

1 tsp salt

1/4 tsp pepper

2 tsp VE spinach seasoning for dip

6 cups thinly sliced potatoes

1 1/2 cups chopped cooked ham

1 small onion grated (Eva used VE toasted onion and added it to the sauce)

In sauce pan melt 4 tbsp butter, stir in flour, parsley flakes, salt, pepper and spinach seasoning until smooth. Gradually add milk and bring to a boil. Cook and stir for 2 min.

Combine ham, potatoes, and onion, place half into greased 2 1/2 quart baking dish.

Top with half of the sauce, repeat layers and cover.

Bake at 375F for 65-75 minutes or until potatoes are almost tender. Dot with remaining butter and bake uncovered for another 15-20 minutes or until potatoes are done.

Eagle Brand Squares

(also found on the sweetened condensed milk can)

1/2 cup margarine, melted

1 1/2 cups graham wafer crumbs

1 can eagle brand sweetened condensed milk

1 cup chocolate chips

1 1/2 cups coconut

1 cup chopped nuts

Mix margarine and graham wafer crumbs and press evenly into 9x13 pan.

Spread milk evenly over crumbs.

Sprinkle next 3 ingredients over milk.

Bake at 325F for 25-30 min.

Not at scrapday but talked about

Chocolate Chip Cake

1 cup oatmeal

1/2 cup margarine

Pour into bowl, add 1 3/4 cups boiling water. Let stand for 10 min.

Add:

1 cup brown sugar

3/4 cup white sugar

2 eggs

Stir well.

Add:

1 3/4 cups flour

1 tsp baking soda

1 tbsp cocoa

1/2 tsp salt

Stir well. Fold in 1/2 cup chocolate chips. Pour into 9x13 pan. Sprinkle with 1/2 cup chocolate chips over top.

Bake at 350F for 30 min.

Spent some time in my studio the other day. Felt soooo good. Here are a few of the things I got done.
This card is made with the Inspired by Nature set. I colored the flowers with my markers and stamped on another piece of cardstock. Then very painstakingly cut them out. I attached them to the cardfront with dimensionals.
I love this picture of the boys holding hands and wanted a layout that focused on their relationship. They get along really well and I love that. I found this quote on a website (don't remember which one) and thought it was perfect.
The red heart was cut out freehand from felt. PP is from the halloween pack, brother I cut out with my bigshot using the timeless type alpha. The small letters are stamped with the Rough alphabet.
I wanted to use this new beautiful pp from our occasions mini catalog but needed a girl picture so used one of my niece. She's 6 months old in this photo and is now over a year.
I also kept this one simple, seems to be the norm lately. I added a retired flower but it kinda got lost on the layout so I handcut a circle, crumpled it, inked it and placed it under the flower. I then made 2 leaves with my oval punch and crimper. I have a small tutorial how to do that in the next day or two. Love how it turned out.
Here is a super quick card I made with the new butterfly embosslet die. It cuts and embosses 5 different butterflies, too cool!!
I used textured cardstock and dry embossed a rectangle around the butterflies and then attached them with dimensionals. Super easy and I love the finished card.

Handcut flowers

I'm getting there. With organizing that is. In the large open space between the upper cabinets I still want to add the rods for my punchs and a holder for my ribbon spools. I'm just not 100% sure how I want to do it so I'm not going to put them up just yet.
I bought the ink pad holder for SU! and LOVE it, don't know why I didn't buy it sooner. lol
I tell ya, I am lovin' my space. So blessed to have it.

Last night was club night and I taught my girls how to make some homemade flowers that seem to be pretty popular right now.
These 4 are super simple, just punch out some circles and cut little snips out all around. Then glue on a second, smaller circle layer. Add a button/brad if you like. I could see a layout with multiply flowers like these and some being on dimensionals. Too cute.
These next flowers are called lollipop flowers and are super easy too. Okay they were all easy to make.
Just handcut 5 circles of different size out of cs or pp. Crumple. Ink the edges and creases. Then glue each layer together from largest to smallest.
For this first one, I used Melon Mambo cs and ink. Used my 2way glue around the edges and dipped them in dazzling diamonds. The center I put micro beads but I think a brad would have looked better.
For this one, I used Melon Mambo cs, pp & ink then did the same thing as the above flower. I did not add glitter to this one and used a button tied with linen thread instead of micro beads.
This last flower took the longest but was still very quick and looks amazing.
Take a piece of pp 1"x 12" long and punch with border punch. I used the eyelet one. Next, send the strip through your crimper 4 times (this breaks up the fibers so it's more pliable).
Punch a circle with your 1-1/4" circle punch and cover with sticky tape. Now starting on the outside edge start putting your crimped pp around the outside of the circle. Keep going around and gathering your pp at the bottom of the strip. For this flower I went around twice. You could do it just once too. Then lastly just pop the brad on.

Hope these directions made sense. If not, you'll have to join my club. ;)

As promised, some after shots.
My gosh I was so excited while Jeco was installing them. And Dwight made it very clear I was not to embarras him by taking pictures WHILE the guys were installing them. teehee Does he know me or what??!! But I was good and waited until they left.
Of course, every jobsite needs a supervisor or two. These two stood there most of the morning watching the guys work. You can see Carter also got his tools out to 'help'.

This is what I see now when I stand at the head of the table. (I can't wait to fill my room.)
The green on the wall is called Poolside Blue but it matches SU!'s Bermuda Bay. The dark wall is Willow and it's a brown with a rich gray undertone. Dwight and I both LOVE this color.
My table is 4 feet wide and 12 feet long and weighs 9000 tonnes! Okay, maybe not quite but close, yikes is it heavy. Jeco said we could line dance on it. Um, I'll stick to scrapbooking. lol
This is the cupboard I had designed for my bigshot dies. Handsome young model too. ;)

This is the east side of the cupboards. The top part will be used for displaying 'stuff' and the drawers are for my cardstock and pp. The upper 4 are for 8.5 x 11 the bottom 4 are for the 12 x 12.
This is the west side of the cupboards. I left the last set of cupboards without doors because of the stamp shelf and there is also an outlet in there.
Here's a complete shot. Well, as best I could anyway. My laptop will go in the middle and I need a bar stool to put there as this cupboard is higher than a regular desk.
Once I have my studio 100% done I will post more pictures, I promise. But that will probably take a few weeks as I have no money left. (but I do accept donations. :))

After I painted my room, all by myself because noone came to help me, (hrmmmf!) I'm not sure I want to share the after pics.

Okay, so I have NO after pics because the cupboards are only arriving Tuesday. *sigh* They couldn't get to them sooner. Oh well, good thing I have lots of patience. NOT! It'll be so worth it and I'm getting lots of reading done, so it's all good.

I love pink and say you NEED pink in there!!!! Not a lot. Paint all the walls a nice chocolate brown and then stencil pink. Paisley? Adornment? Then put some dark roman blinds on the windows.

1.My color choices are chooclate brown on the cupboard wall and the single door and window wall, then a teal/aqua color similar to the color on the cover of the definitely decorative fall winter 2009 catalogue.
2.the vinyl accents first the tree, thoughts & prayers #116003 (med size) in brown on the large wall were you have the little shelf right now. Then in white the definitions, inspire - share - create,(#117838, 117843, 114079) in white around the room or the tree or you can place the definitons diagnaly beside the tree (start with inspire closer to the floor beside the tree, then share diagnaly above beside the tree and then create near the top of the wall above the tree). To me it makes sense to have those definitions in your room because that is what happens in that room!!
3. Curtains would be nice to have a pattern with earth tones and some of the color pulled from the teal/aqua color, brown and white. Some kind of pattern would be nice to add texture since all the other colors are plain colors.

Create definition along the top of the wall in one straight line (not like in the catalog) above where you want the bulletin board. On the bulletin board put the Flutter accent and paint the frame the same dark blue.

Paint all your walls turquoise or teal. Not too dark, more bright/bold. It would really liven up the room and make it feel bigger. The wall with the least amount of 'stuff' on it you could stencil the Parisian Damask over the entire wall but do it the same color but with a little pearl shine or shimmer added to it. Beautiful tone on tone effect.
White vinyl accents on your walls... I do love the dandelion as well as the definitions inspire, share, create.
Turquoise ones on your cupboards, flutter would be nice.
Window covering should be white too I think or your could go totally different and do them in a bright blue or yellow.

the tree I would put it on the wall where your stamp shelf is going put it on top of the shelf. Or you could put the Flutter one on there Or do the picture frame idea that is on the cover of the definitly decorative booklet.

I have been going crazy with which one to choose. They were all great ideas! I decided I will award Eva the prize as most of her suggestions I will use but I will also be using some of MaryAnne's so she'll get a free class from me.
I will paint the cupboard and window walls teal, and the plain wall brown. I'll get the dandelion accent and the flutter and I will see how it looks without curtains but I'm thinking I'll like that.
Love the idea of painting the frame of the bulletin board pink and putting the accents on the blinds.

Okay, I am having some serious trouble picking the winner. There are several ideas I'd like to do!! Dwight and I (okay, more 'I') have been debting over 2 in particular. By tomorrow evening I'll decide as I want to get the paint on Monday. My room is nearly empty. (wow, I had far more than I thought I did, but shhh, don't tell Dwight)

Paint my room contest

My cupboards are coming!!! Oh how I've waited. This must be what Dwight felt like waiting for his Nova to arrive. lol

BUT, before they get here, I need to paint my studio. It's a pretty drab beige right now so I'd love to liven it up. I'm posting some pics of my studio for those of you who haven't been here in person. And no, it's not very clean! I just kinda tidied it for the pictures but figured if I'm packing it all up in the next few days why bother. lol

The room is 13' x 20' (approx).

The wall with the 3 windows is 13' long and faces east (the driveway is on the other side). Don't worry, the lamp isn't staying, the light on that end burnt out so I'm waiting (very patiently) for Dwight to fix it.

The wall with one window and the door faces west. The door leads to the backyard. So that explains the jackets/boots/etc. And the dog is just sickly in love with me so ya, his bed is in my room too. ;)

This wall with the desk/cupboards/table/etc is going to be transformed. White cupboards all along the bottom with counter top and some open shelves up higher. So everything you see here now will be "tossed" EXCEPT for the wooden shelf with the stamps. That shelf will be moved to the west wall between the door and window.

This wall doesn't have much on it but the shelf will go I think. I'd like to put up a bulletin board for displaying projects and maybe a different kind of shelf higher for displaying 3D art. The orange filing cabinet will also be gone and I'll either stack my chairs there or put a book shelf there.

Also, the 2 horrible tables in the middle will be replaced with one large white table the measures 4' across and 12' long. I can hardly wait!!

Okay, so what I'm asking from you is how should I paint my studio and what color(s)? During the day there is lots of sunlight so I'm not scared of a darker color. I'm not a pink/purple kinda girl unless it's in small doses. The rest of my house is earth tones. The cupboards and trim will be white and the rug is a grey with flecks of blue, green and burgandy (mostly blue) but not sure that's staying for the long haul. I also would like to add some of SU!'s vinyl wall accents so tell me which one (or more) of those I should use, or one of the the stencils. There's a link in the right column of my blog...the green definitely decorative catalog.

I really need help here people!! I'm open to all suggestions (within reason ;) ).

Ribbon roses

I'm not very good with tutorials but will attempt to show you how to make a ribbon rose. It's actually very easy and I love the finished embellishment.

Supplies needed:

-ribbon, I used 24 inches of Riding Hood Red taffeta 3/8" wide

(you could also used strips of fabric or felt)

-3x3 piece of cardstock, perferrable the same color as the ribbon

-sticky sheet or strips

-scissors

Cut your sticky sheet the size of your cardstock and stick on.

You can also use strips of 2 sided tape, just make sure you cover the entire surface.

Remove tape backing that's in front or would it be called the fronting? hmmm, anyway, peel off the top to make it sticky.

Starting in the middle, stick one end of your ribbon down.

Twist the ribbon while going in circles around the middle of the flower.

It's up to you how twisty you want your flower to be so experiment and see what you like.

Keep twisting and turning and pressing the ribbon into the tape.

Keep going until you have your flower to the size you want.

Tuck the end of your ribbon underneath and press into the tape. It should now look something like this.

Another angle.

Cut the extra cardstock off as close to the ribbon as possible. This will make your scissors super sticky!

You can leave it like this or embellish with a brad/button/whatever you want. Here I used a clear brad.

With 24 inches of ribbon my flower ended up being approx. 2 inches wide.

If you try this I would love to see your flower and how you used it!

glitter

A friend of mine was asking about glitter. Well there are lots of ways to use the wonderful stuff.

On this first card I stamped the large rose onto watercolor paper with stazon ink. Then used the crayons and aqua painters to color it in. After I cut out the flower I stuck it onto sticky sheet and cut again. I peeled off the second layer of backing and added dazzling diamonds to it. Then I adhered it to the card. Looks pretty cool.

For this next card I punched out a piece of cardstock with the ornament punch and traced it onto the sticky sheet and cut out. I cut off the bottom of the ornament to turn it into a vase. I peeled off the top layer of backing and punched a little flower out of it, then stuck the flower backing onto the middle of the vase. Added brown glitter, tapped off extra. Peeled off the flower and added pink glitter. Then made my card. I thought it turned out pretty cool. I think for this one they call it burnished velvet.

A few more treasures

I'll start with the treasure chest seeing it's at the top of the page. I made this cake for my nephew for his 7th birthday. It didn't turn out too bad considering I used Betty Crocker icing. My machine didn't want to make the buttercream, it is old ya know. He loved it so that's all that mattered.
I loved this card so much I had to make more. This time I used Bashful Blue instead of Baja Breeze. And I added some swirls in the bottom snow.

I only made one of these cards, not sure why, but I did. I love the way it turned out though. Kraft is becoming one of my fav colors to use.

This card suffered a small mishap. (but it's okay Irina) It was from one of my card classes but when my A+ student accidentally smudged the sentiment I gave her a fresh base. (which she didn't smudge) But now I had to get creative to cover the oops. It didn't turn out too bad, but now that I look at it again I would move things around. Unfortunately the recipient already has it and I don't think would appreciate me rearranging it now.

Here's another ornament punch card. I love that punch. Hopefully I'll get to play while on holidays and I'll show ya a cool trick with the punch. This one was fast to make and I really like how it turned out. The ornament is on dimensionals, too cool!

Some more Christmas cards

And I'm still working on more.

This one is an interesting color combo, Almost Amethyst and Lovely Lilac. I used an embossing folder (nonSU) for the swirls and then traced them with the 2 way glue pen and added the diamonds. Soooo cool. Kinda like swirling snow. The snowman is from the Holiday Tag Team set. Still one of my fav's.

This card is also an interesting color choice for Christmas, Kiwi Kiss. I stamped the big Medallion stamp with Kiwi Kiss ink and then stamped again on a smaller piece of WW and punched out the middle with the scallop circle. Covered the scallop circle with glue and added diamonds and a clear brad.

I love love love snowmen, and Flaky Friends is my most favorite set. I wanted a simple card so decided to just use a few colors to color in the snowmen's accessories. I made a mask and sponged a faint oval around the snowmen. The snow under the men has diamonds on it too. Once the card was assembled I sprayed with the frost shimmer paint mixed with alcohol over the entire card.

Another favorite of mine, (really there are sets I don't like ;) ) is this house from To You and Yours. I stamped it in Chocolate Chip and then masked the house and the land beside it. Then sponged the exposed WW with Baja Breeze ink. All the swirls on, under, and over the house have diamonds on them. Yep, was feeling like a glittery gal while making these cards. The first layer of Baja Breeze was stamped with the Paisley background in Baja Breeze ink. Love how this card turned out. It's a square 4.25" size card.

So, internet is back and it wasn't our computers. They had to "change something at their end". Go figure. I'm so done with MTS....(I wish)

Anyway, onto much better things, got a few cards and an advent calender (box) thingie to share. Oh and a cake. The cake didn't turn out anything like I had planned. (Had a very off day that day.) The cake was for my niece who turned 1 yesterday.

The advent box/calender thing I bought last year but ran out of time to decorate so I did it this year, Dec 2nd. Sad I know. Oh well, the boys are excited to open the little drawers everyday. Most of them have treats but I do have a few that say movie night, or game night or look for your treat (as the drawers are VERY small). I used retired Christmas paper from last year. Added a few punched out flowers with brads, ribbons and buttons. (the numbers came with the box)

Here's the cake I made for Shaylin. Not how I planned but like I said, it was an off day. I made the little flowers with royal icing so they are hard and I put them on last. It's just a cherry chip cake mix but that's my sisters favorite and buttercream icing. I was told it tasted really good.

Now onto a few card shares. I won't share them all now so I have something to post in the coming days to hopefully make up for my lack of posting lately.

This one is done with kraft cs and is my favorite this year so far. I made a template with an oval cut out of it to use as a mask. I stamped the snowflakes in WW craft ink then sponged the edge. PeaceLoveJoy is from All Holidays and stamped in Chocolate Chip. Added some buttons tied with linen thread, a strip of Chocolate twill ribbon and a few holes. ;)

It is so pretty IRL. I just loved it.

This next card is made using the ornament punch. Wasn't sure about that punch and now I LOVE IT! The ornaments are stamped in WW craft ink with snowflakes and JOY then heat embossed with Iridescent Ice EP. The ornaments are also on pop dots. Used the petals a plenty embossing folder for the bottom white layer. I honestly have no idea where the gold ribbon is from but suited this card perfectly so I went with it.

My third card to share today is using an oldie but goodie, Lovely as a Tree set. The Merry Christmas is from All Holidays. The tree and sentiment were stamped in Handsome Hunter craft ink and then heat embossed with II. Again, made a mask and stamped then sponged with WW craft ink. I used a jumbo eyelet in the corner and tied some taffeta ribbon through it. I also love this one. (okay, I love them all LOL)

I need to run, UPS just dropped off a few boxes...

I really do hate technology

when it's not working!! Yes we are still having trouble. It's looking like our computers are the problem. Probably because it's 5 weeks from Christmas and I'd love to spend my money on a computer right now. (in my most sarcastic voice) But if we do go get a new one, I really want a MAC. (manily because the commercials are so stinkin' funny) and too because they are just a better computer. (sorry, my old, dying, and pathetic PC, but it's true)

Anyway, onto better things. Here are the cards we did at the last 2 card classes. I have another class tomorrow evening but I'll change 2 cards as I've run out of a few things. (oops)

This first card used Paisley, Patterned Pines, and Four the Season stamp sets. Soft Suede CS, ink, and ribbon. WW top note die. It seemed to be the favorite of group 1. They could choose which style they wanted to follow.

For this one we used the new flocked Cocoa specialty pp out of the mini. Sooo nice! A strip of WW cut with the eyelet lace border punch and some ribbon. Real Red CS, ink and ribbon. Old Olive CS and ribbon. Here's a close up of the texture on the bottom of the first card (I left some smooth too, gotta have choices), and you can see the diamonds we added. A little sparkle just adds so much I think!

You can also click on the pictures to make them bigger (I think).

This one was group 2's favorite.

I wanted one card that was a little different from the normal fold in half kind. So I decided to do a gate fold card. So simple and yet such a big impact. This one was also a favorite. (okay, they all were LOL)

I again used Soft Suede and pp from the Cocoa specialty pack. I used my big shot to cut the medium scallop circle out of Real Red cs and the circle with the Cardinal is Soft Suede as well as the ink.

Here's the card slightly open. I'll be changing this one for tomorrow's class as I ran out of this pattern of pp. So hopefully just a slight adjustment.

On the darker CS I had extra WW top notes cut so they could be put on the inside to either stamp or write a greeting on.

Now this card is hard to photograph. We sprayed the shimmer paint mixed with alcohol on the embossed layer. They had a choice of frost white, which just added sparkle or champagne which added flecks of color with the sparkle.

I only embosses 7/8 of the WW piece so that we could stamp Peace on Earth on the bottom. Also from the Four the Season stamp set. PP is from the same Cocoa pack (what a wonderful pack it was!) CS and ink were Chocolate Chip and the ribbon is the white organza.

This card will be changed for group 3 as I don't have enough ribbon. But don't worry, I've got another gorgeous card planned.

Lastly, I had to find a way to get my Medallion stamp into this class. Love this stamp and it's SU!'s #1 best seller this year.

Again I let them choose between white or iridescent ice embossing powder. Both provide an awesome look. I used kraft, chocolate chip and WW cs, WW craft ink and felt ribbon from last year's holiday mini. The 'peace joy love' is from All Holidays stamp set.

Well I hope I've been able to share all these awesome cards with you. I was told by a few they were 'patiently' waiting for a peek. Sorry!

with our internet these past few weeks. I've called MTS a million times, we got a new modum, a new router, had MTS come in and put a main filter on our phone line, ran malware software on the computers and it's still not where it should be at. We are sooooo frustrated so I'm going to call Computer Remedies again (hopefully they aren't getting sick of me).

Hopeing this post will work. I've tried a few times but just can't get it.

On a happier note now that I've vented (thank you for listening by the way :) ) I have filled my Christmas card classes and some have asked for a 3rd. We'll see.

A few things to share, (of course only if this post actually gets into bloggerland)

Coasters for a friend of mine. She always hosts our book club but doesn't have any coasters for our wine glasses so I made her a set. Hope she likes them. The main image is a retired set, Garden Collage and then I added some swirls with the Baroque Motif set. I stamped them with stazon and then colored the image with my blender pens and craft ink. Next I baked them for about a 1/2 hour in the oven at about 300F, and once they cooled off I clear coated them. Sounds like a lot of work but not really.

I've had some time to scrapbook lately but the mojo is just not there, I think it's been too long.

I did finish one layout for my scrappers club this month, very simple because like I said, no mojo. I used pp from the Cast a Spell package, so cool. I just can't decide on a title for this one, so it's still missing, it'll come yet. lol

So what was I doing instead of scrapbooking? Making this

Is that not cute? I saw it on a blog when I was blog hoping (instead of scrapping) and thought, I could make that. It has 6 little envelopes in there. Just too cute.

I plan to make myself scrapbook more the following weeks so I get my groove back. It's been a long lonely summer for my scrapping supplies.

Caution, scary post

I saw these cute, or should I say scary, top note bags on a blog somewhere. (I really should start writing down where I find this stuff) My boys LOVE them. I'd like to make some for their classmates for halloween but that's just too much work! So I think I'll make some for my daycare kids and add a few treats into them. And maybe their teachers. I think it's pretty straight forward as to what I used. Top note die for the head, tab punch for the noses and bolts, and circle punches for the eyes/eyelids. The eyelids are on dimensionals. I hand drew the mouth and scars on Frankenstein. Hope you like them!

Made it through the Pumpkin Fair! It was great. Had a blast and sold 90% of my stuff, other than cards that is. They did not sell so well, so it goes. Overall, though, it was fabulous! I'll be there next year (and I'll start making stuff in March!)

I have been super busy these last few weeks. Up till midnight most nights working on stuff, either for the fair or just life. I plan to go to bed early tonight!

I wanted to share a few more things I did. I used the spider from the DD catti and put it on this glass bowl. Too cute! I'll be using it at halloween. I didn't have this one for sale, just to display.

People were loving this pumpkin poop! I made 10 baggies and could have done 20 more I'm sure. (next year) They were as popular as the little pumkin baskets in my last post. Another popular one was the reindeer poop. A few girls came to buy it just for the chocolate, too funny. When I was making them Carter came to me and we had this conversation;

Carter: "Mommy, what is this?"

Me: "It's reindeer poop"

Carter, with eyes as big as saucers: "where did you get it from?"

Me, trying very hard not to laugh: "I was chasing reindeers with a shovel"

Carter, now with total horror on his face: "I don't think I want any"

And if any of you know Carter, he will eat any candy, any time. I laughed so hard. I'm mean I know, but didn't I have children to bring me joy???? teehee

Lastly, here are 2 of the many journals I made. Most of which sold, but I didn't take pictures of all of them. Just didn't take the time, sorry.

I also ended up with 14 orders of different items I sold out of. Thankfully from local people so I'll be making those this week.

Whew, I am so glad this is behind me. Now it's time to get my scrap on!!

I have been busy

I have been busy getting things ready for the Pumpkin Fair. I tell ya, I better sell a lot of this stuff so I can do some shopping afterwards. lol It's fun though, so no real complaints.

This little pumpkin treat box was super easy to make. I punched 5 ovals with the wide oval punch, inked the edges and stacked them together. Inside is a baggie with some candycorn.

I love the way you can use the decor elements on surfaces other than the wall. Here I used them on a canvas. I first painted it brown, then rubbed on the vinyl. The 'home' was cut out of chipboard covered with pp using the big shot. I just love it, so not sure I'll sell it. Oh, I have a glass bowl I put some DE onto, I'll post that tomorrow.

The neighbour girl is turning 4 on Tuesday and Carter is invited to her party. Carol was kind enough to borrow me this Princess Time set (Thanks Carol) which is perfect for her princess party. I stared at the set forever, stamped a million different ways, tried a billion different things and this is the best it got. Don't know why it was so hard. (because I have boys?) I was set on having the crown cut out and popped up, maybe that's what made it harder, I don't know. I also had a bugger of a time cutting out the jewels at the top of the crown so I punched them out of a 'reject crown' and put them on top. Loved how that turned out. All in all, I think a 4 year old will like it.

Today we went to a birthday party for this little guy. He turns 2 on the 24th. The older one is my stepson Markus and Ryan is his son. So yes Eva, this is my Grandson! (she is so laughing at me right now) I got a better picture of the 2 of them but it's sideways and I couldn't change the orientation. The best part was that it was a pool party at Ryan's grandparents house. The boys had a blast. It was an awesome party. Happy Birthday Ryan!!

Now, some shares. I made a card and altered journal for a friend of mine. Her birthday is today, Happy Birthday Brooke!! Hope you had a great day.

I'll start with the card, talk about wowsers! I love it. It turned out great. CASED it from the '08 F/W catti. Just changed the stamp sets, colors and tweeked the design a little. I used retired colors, Baja Breese, Kiwi Kiss and Pink Pirouette cs & ink. Added a little chocolate chip ribbon and scalloped cs for good measure. I love this card, so happy with it. But I think I said that already. ;)

The altered comp book did not take long at all. Also used some retired stuff here. Can't remember the pp pack the paper came from but uses Soft Sky and River Rock. Punched a shape with the curly label punch in Regal Rose cs and sponged the edges for depth. The daisy and 'B' were cut out of Soft Sky cs with the big shot and sponged as well. For the 'B' I glued the cardstock to a piece of chipboard first then put through the big shot. So nice! The flower center is a corduroy brad in chocolate chip (super yummy). I also added a scallop edge along the top (going over the edge of the cover) in chocolate chip and added faux stitching. Should have taken a close up but didn't think of it in time, sorry!

birthdays, cards and a whole lot more

My youngest son and his cousin turned 4 years old on August 30th. We celebrated with an afternoon at Tinkertown and then back at my sil & bil's house for cake. I made those cakes too. A football for Reese and a ramp for Carter. (they asked, I answered) We had a great day! Thanks B & C for hosting the party!

I also have some creative goodies to share.

This first one is a top note purse. Too cute and super easy to make. I used the new Christmas Cocoa pp from the mini which is amazing!! I'm sure it'll be on the cards for my card class. Anyway, this top note purse looks like a purse when closed, but you open it to reveal a spot for a few pictures. How awesome is that?? I totally can't remember where I saw a picture of this, I was blog hopping one day, so if it's you, let me know. I just love this idea.

I used Real Red, Soft Suede and Whisper White cs, Oval All and Baroque Motifs sets, lg oval and scallop oval punches and some white grosgrain ribbon.

This other project is a gift card/money holder card. Again, super easy using the big shot. (Man am I glad I bought that thing.) I put a piece of folded cs through the big shot in the top note die (just one side not to the end) and then added a pocket on the inside. I used Soft Suede, Dusty Durango and Crushed Curry cs/ink. (these in color colors are really growing on me). I again used Oval All and Baroque Motifs stamp sets as well as the scallop oval and lg oval punches and the the scallop edge punch.

Sorry I've been MIA lately. Summer is getting away too fast!! Swimming lessons are almost over, soccer has started and I need to do some shopping for the boys for school clothes. Yikes!
Anyway, here are some shares for you. I've made a few more card packs for the fair. These cards are 3-1/2"x5" note cards that are found on page 168 in the catalog. A pack of 20 prescored WW card bases and 20 WW envelopes for $7.95
This first one I scalloped the edge and then added the pp. I used Eastern Blooms for the flowers and happy birthday from the All Holidays set. PP is from the Bella Bleu pack. Ink color is Not Quite Navy.
This next one was a lot of work. And then I decided to make a pack of 6! Don't worry, I was calling myself names too. But I do LOVE this card! Dreams du Jour stamp set and I water colored the flowers. The middle 'love you' square is on dimensionals. You can't see it very well but there are Pink Butterflies down the left side of the WW layer. I think if you click on the picture it will get bigger. Pink Pirouette and Chocolate chip cs/ink.
I'm doing a swap with my downline and here is one of the cards I'm sending her.
It uses Fifth Avenue Floral and now while I'm typing this I realize it's stamped in retired colors, Baja Breeze, Kiwi Kiss, and Pacific Point. So I guess I won't send it to her she can't use it. Oh well, I'll add it to my stash!
I also wanted to share (or brag about) the cake I made my niece who just turned 9. She wanted a 2 tier 'wonky' cake with pink fondant and purple flowers that had 5 petals with pink centers. So I did as I was told. She loved it. I still need way more practise with putting the fondant onto a round cake but it wasn't too bad, I hope.

Finished another set. These were super simple and yet look so nice. At least I think

they do. For the cards I used Very Vanilla cardstock; Dusty Durango, Crushed Curry, and stazon ink. Stamp sets were Fifth Avenue Floral and a retired sentiment set I can't remember the name of. The box was made with Dusty Durango cardstock and I cut out a flower from the Fifth Avenue Floral and watercolored it.

Sunday I went to a going away party for my cousin Mandy. She's moving to Germany on Friday. I made her some cards so she could send them home with a letter and this card was for her. I used retired pp, the Upsy Daisy and Curly Label stamp sets. I love how it turned out.

Boxed card sets

I have made 2 boxed card sets. The first one I did them all a little different but that's too much work. The rest will all be the same card just a different sentiment.
The box on this one is made with Soft Suede cs, love that color. The other colors are Rich Razzleberry and Old Olive. The polka dot ribbon is Soft Suede as well. I used the Upsy Daisy stamp set, curly label punch and stamp set, and top note big shot die.

On this set the box is again made of Soft Suede cs, Crushed Curry cs and Dusty Durango ribbon. The card ingredients are: Whisper White cs, Dusty Durango cs, Soft Suede cs, Dusty Durango ribbon, Build a brad, daisy big shot die and All Holidays stamp set.
There will be 4 cards (and envelopes) in each box and I haven't figured out how much to charge yet. Any suggestions? I had a table at the Pumpkin Fair 2 years ago and it went very well, hoping the same thing this year.

Faux alligator, real alligator, and a missile

Is this not the cutest clutch purse ever?? Well, a clutch purse made of cardstock anyway. It's done with the faux alligator technique and the top note die. So easy and too cute!! I want to make a few more for the Pumpkin Fair but will need more clear embossing powder.

Now here is the real alligator (or was it a crocadile?). We took the boys to Westman Reptile Garden in Brandon this week. Very cool!! If you can go, you should. They had quite the amazing bunch of reptiles. The Reptile Garden was near Shilo so of course we then had to check out the museum. The boys loved it, more than the snakes I think. Outside they had a few canon's, army tanks and this missile vehicle. Inside was just amazing! Such history in there. It was an honor to walk through it.

I still have more projects to post but I'll save that for another day. (hopefully tomorrow)

1st Birthday

My neighbours son turns 1 year old today. I new the design of the card but not what colors I wanted to use. So I made two! Which do you like better? Dwight likes the darker one better but thinking it's going to a 1 year old he thought the lighter one would be better. I don't know, maybe he will get both. lol

This one is made with Baja Breeze cardstock base and pp from the Parisian Breeze pp. (still mourning that they're retired) I don't very often sew on cards but love the look of it and since my sewing machine was still on my table I decided to go for it. I used the scallop square punch to punch the pieces. The WW square with the rabbit (from Forest Friends) is on dimensionals .

This card uses Not Quite Navy cs base and pp from Maine Blueberry. The 'for you' is from the Fresh Cuts stamp set.

Guess I'll have to make up my mind very soon so we can run his gift over to him. Maybe at 1 year old he won't really care which card he gets. ;)

Earlier this week I had a few good hours alone in my studio and have a few creations to share that I'll be selling at the Pumpkin Fair. So stay tuned, just need to upload the photo's, crop, resize, watermark and then post!

Did some playing

Dwight went to Gimli today with some friends so I thought I would create something while the boys were playing so nicely downstairs.

I was (still am) a little scared of the in color colors. A few are pretty bright, but nice. I really love Soft Suede and Dusty Durango.

I made a little photo book, got the tutorial from Jenn D.'s blog. I used the Maine Blueberry pp in addition to the Dusty Durango and Soft Suede.

Here is the front cover. It didn't turn out the way I envisioned, but okay. Thought the flowers would be a little smaller on those square scallops. The flowers are from the Best Wishes & More stamp set. The ribbon is the new in color polka dotted ribbon (love it!)

Here is an inside shot. On the left is a post it note holder and the right are the pages (obviously). The pages are left that either you could write in it or add pictures. It was easy to make, just time consuming. The brads were from the Hodge Podge Hardware. What do you think? I made it for selling at the Roland Pumpkin Fair. I just reserved my table so make sure you stop by October 3rd to see all my wonderful creations!

Here's a layout I got done last week. Ok, so the only layout. I'm doing just a small album (8 x 8) for one of my daycare kids who is no longer coming. Kind of a little remembrance. Anyway, I used some retired pp, the butterfly is from the big shot die covered with sticky sheet and glittered. 'friends' is a rubon and I used the Baroque Motifs flourish.

Now for how I made my own frothy cappacino.
I brew 1 cup of strong French Vanilla coffee. While that's going I pour 1 cup of cold milk into a 2cup jar and put on the lid. Then shake, shake, shake. And yes, parts of your body that you've been neglecting will shake too!! Then nuke the milk until hot. Which in my pathetic microwave is over a minute! Now in my coffee cup (which is pretty big) I pour 1 tbsp french vanilla creamer, the coffee and the milk, top with the froth and a sprinkle of coffee topper (sugar & cinnamon). YUM!!!

No mojo

So I actually was taking time to scrap today but there was not a whole lot of mojo. I think it's because I didn't do the dishes. It bothers me if there is work to be done and I'm scrappin' instead. NEED to get over that. lol

My first layout totally shows the lack of mojo, but it's done and added to the pile. I also struggle with so many photos on one page. But I didn't know which to leave out, so they all went on. I used some retired pp, need to use it up!

The second layout turned out much better, I think anyway. I've been hoarding these felt snowflakes for forever and now in July I decide to use them. Crazy!! I ran my Baja Breeze ink pad over the white cardstock for a background. Stamped the 'waiting' in Riding Hood Red, wrote the 'for snow' in marker. The ribbon is the double stitched ribbon, I just pulled the thread on the edges to ruffle it up like that.

Also wanted to share that I figured out how to make my own cappacino's at home with froth. mmmm so good.

yesterday. But I was too busy looking at the NEW catalog!!! Wowsers, this one is awesome!! I've actually had it for a few days and I've looked at it a million times. Funny thing though, my wishlist is getting longer, not shorter.
I should have 6 new cards to show you, but the duh-head in me forgot to take pictures of them this morning before I gave them away.They were the 6 cards I made for Colby's kindergarten teacher. And they were kickbutt cards. It makes me mad too because I like to keep a file of the cards/projects I've made. Oh well.

Got one more layout done. At this rate I should be caught up when Colby's 16 years old. I had planned to scrap all day today but got some company so plans changed. Oh well, better luck this week I hope.
I made this card for Colby's friend Peyton who had a party last Wednesday. I made it in less than 5 minutes. I pulled out my box of Bold Bright scraps (yes, even my scraps are organized) and found a 1/2 sheet of Gable Green and then added YoYo Yellow, Brilliant Blue and Real Red. Stamped and punched and I was done. Used retired So Many Scallops, Rough Edges Alphabet, A little Somethin' and Priceless. It took me longer to put all the stuff away than it did to assemble it. The 'e', 't' and 'n' are on dimensionals as well as the big star.
Here is my layout I got done. I love the look of having my layout 'framed' with another color of cardstock but find the layout gets so thick then. So I took a wheel, I used retired Heart of Africa here and just wheeled 1/3 of it onto the edge of my layout. Not bad, but I'll try some more wheels see if I find anything I like. I also used some retired pp so can't remember the name of it. I gotta stop using that topnote on all my layouts, but I just love it. *sigh*

Isn't this beautiful sunshine wonderful?? I love it. Just hope it doesn't get tooooo hot.

Here is a layout I did on Friday. I don't usually have only one small picture like this on a layout but I managed to catch this little boys guilty face and wanted to capture that. I used Parisian Breeze textured pattern paper. So sad that it will be gone after June 30th. Good thing I stocked up though. ;) I scalloped the edges with my punch and cut out 'guilty' with the big shot. It was a fast layout.

Here are 2 layouts I got done this week. Hopefully I'll get some more done, but we'll see. I still need to finish a gift for Colbys teacher. I'm also putting together a retirement special that I'll post by the weekend. So watch out for that.
This first layout uses the Urban Oasis pp, kraft cs, white cs for the title that I cut out using the big shot. The stamp under the title is from Always and a brad from the Soho collection.
This layout uses the Walk in the Park pp from the mini catalog. Baja Breeze cs, So Saffron ribbon, small star punch, and rubons. I cut the pp curvy using my cutter kit scissor blade.

Still getting organized

Yes, I'm still here, still trying to organize my life. It feels like it's always in chaos. I have decided I will post once a week on my blog. Sundays. Seems like that's usually a mellow day for us here, at least in the evening anyway. So I will post every Sunday and if I get a chance, during the week, but no promises there.
I know today is Monday, but shhhh. We won't tell anyone that. I did get some scrappin' done this weekend, yahoo, it's be a long while. Also played a little last week with the matchbox die for my big shot.
Made this matchbox for a friend who won the Amazing Race pool. She likes old vintage looking stuff so I tried to make it look weathered. Hope she likes it. Of course the inside is filled with scrapping goodies. (just not in this photo LOL)While I had the bid shot sitting out I decided to play a little more and made this little dresser/trinket box with 6 matchboxes and the topnote for the top and bottom. I covered 2 pieces of chipboard with pp (from SAB) and cut with the topnote die. I needed it stiffer then with just pp. I put the brads in 1/2 way then bent the legs open. Wanted them to be more like little knobs. It's pretty cute.
I guess I'm showcasing the bigshot as this card is also made using the bigshot.

The big scallop circle is used to make this dress. Too cute. Patty Bennet came up with this idea to make the dress, she's so smart!!

Here is the larger version of the backpack I showed you the other day (or week). I wanted one big enough to put a few A2 sized cards and envelopes into for a teacher gift. It took a little tweaking, and recutting, but I got it done. Really like how it turned out. Now I need to make some cards to match. I LOVE this pattern paper and bought another 2 packs with the special right now.

You can see the huge size difference between the original and the one I changed.

I also have a layout to share, believe it or not I had some time to scrap last week. I used the big shot to cut out the title, used a transparency sheet for the '&'. I'm loving the corduroy buttons too.
